I was at a Digital Book World event yesterday speaking on working with publishers and in-house marketing teams. The event was fantastic with tons of experts sharing tons of great content. I commented to one of the event planners about the lack of authors at this event (most of the attendees were publishers and agents). She said they didn’t really target the event to authors but in my view, that’s not really the point. The point is that as an author, if you’re serious about your career as a published author you need to stay aware of industry events. Some of these events aren’t cheap, but they are a good investment.
Keeping track of industry stuff is really important. Knowing what’s happening in the industry, what’s going on and what’s coming up is key to being successful. As authors we often live in a vacuum, though perhaps tempting, this is never a good idea.
