Take a lesson from Cagney & Lacey

I don’t normally highlight clients we’re working with on my blog. Why? Well I don’t think it’s fair. We *love* all of our books equally but occasionally one of them stands out of the crowd because of it’s message and the story behind the story. Cagney & Lacey, and Me is one of them.

Written by the show’s Executive Producer, Barney Rosenzweig this book chronicles what it took to get a show like Cagney & Lacey on the air and then, the amazing things he had to do to keep it on the air. Why was it so tough? Well in an age of Charlie’s Angels TV viewers weren’t used to seeing intelligent, savvy, feisty, career women who happened to be cops and frankly, the TV execs never thought anyone would care. Turns out they did. And the rest, as they say, is television history.

The book is being released along with the DVD collection in May of this year which is the 25th anniversary of the show.

So why do I mention this? Well, to be honest I think Barney could teach us all a thing or two about persistence, perseverance, and an unquestioned belief in ourselves and the books we’re pushing. When you faced down a giant like CBS and got your way in spite of the naysayers, you know a thing or two about being on the unpopular side of a pitch.

We should all take a lesson from Barney and from Cagney & Lacey, the man and show transformed television.

Who will you transform today?
